Mart Bartelds
Reconstructing a synthetic cell from its components, In vitro reaction networks for molecular information processing
About me
Mart Bartelds obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the university in Groningen in the field of molecular and synthetic biology. During his Master’s he did two research internships, the first in the group of Giovanni Maglia (Groningen) and the second in in the group of Jason Chin at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK). During these projects he worked on in vitro characterization and engineering of biological systems. He wants to continue the cell free biology work during his PhD, in which he is working on prototyping genetic networks in cell-free expression systems with special interest in the role of RNA. He started his PhD in 2019 under the supervision of Tom de Greef, but in close collaboration with the Huck group. In his spare time he likes to travel to Groningen and the rest of the world, being outside and playing boardgames.
