NWO XS grant for Dr. Francesca Rivello

Dr. Francesca Rivello, with Dr. Eng. Kinga Matuła as collaborator, won a 50kEuro grant in the NWO XS competition. This is an ambitious and complex project that seeks to address emerging challenges connected with single-cell multi-omics analysis, both experimental and bioinformatic. During the next eight months Francesca and Kinga will use previously developed technology for single cell transcriptomics and intracellular protein analysis to test four different cancer drugs (BTK inhibitors). They want to compare mode of action of the different drug molecules to unravel differences in the cellular responses.

Postdoctoral fellowship grant for Dr. Tao Zhou

Dr. Tao Zhou has been recently awarded a Postdoctoral Mobility Fellowship, funded by The Swiss National Science Foundation. This fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers to extend their scientific network and enhance their scientific profile for a period of two years outside of Switzerland. In the next two years, Tao will work on reconstituting enzymatic reaction networks compartmentalised in hydrogel beads to synthesise valuable compounds.

Michael’s goodbye party

This month Dr. Michael Teders said goodbye to our group as he found a new job in Germany. Michael was part of the Huck group for about two years and made a significant progress in the fields of photochemistry and enzymatic chemical reaction networks. On his last day we had a small farewell gathering with loads of German sweets. We thank Michael for being a member of the Huck group and we wish best of luck for his future career!

Dr. Pogodaev

Congratulations Dr. Pogodaev!

A big applause to Alex who successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Molecular Engineering of Enzymatic Reaction Networks on January 21, 2021!
Beautiful work, well done Alex!

The Secret Sock Santa

Huck group together with the whole Department of Physical Organic Chemistry celebrated The Secret Sock Santa and exchanged many colourful pairs of socks as well as very original poems! This is how we are creating joyful mood for upcoming winter festivities!

NWO Veni Grant for Jessie van Buggenum

Dr. Jessie van Buggenum has been awarded a NWO Veni Grant. Veni is part of the Talent Programme of the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO). It allows researchers who have recently obtained their PhD to conduct independent research and develop their ideas for a period of three years.

Aleksandr Pogodaev finalist of the 2020 Reaxys® PhD Prize

The Reaxys PhD Prize celebrates innovative and rigorous research by ambitious early career chemical sciences researchers. This year’s competition maintained the high standards of previous years: over 400 entries from around the globe were rigorously examined by the Review Committee to arrive at the 45 finalists. Aleksandr Pogodaev, PhD in the Huck group is one of the finalists. Congrats!

ERC Advanced Grant

We are proud to announce that Prof. Wilhelm Huck has been awarded with an ERC Advanced Grant for his research on ‘Life inspired complex molecular systems controlled by enzymatic reaction networks’.
